A VM must be in the running state to start the VMware Tools installation, and a guest OS must be booted.A guest OS must be on the list of supported operating systems. There are some requirements to install VMware Tools: You also need to install VMware Tools after P2V migration (if you convert a physical server to a virtual machine). Shared clipboard is limited for VMs running on ESXi hosts. The Unity mode is not available for Linux guests in the latest versions of VMware desktop hypervisors. For example, some features enabled for Windows guests are not available for Linux guests. It is highly recommended that you install VMware Tools on guest OSs running on VMware virtual machines (VMs).Ī set of features available after installing VMware Tools is not the same for different operating systems. A VM can work without VMware Tools, but most features and advantages of using VMs are not available without the VMware Tools functionality. Each hardware version uses the appropriate emulated hardware, drivers which are installed with VMware Tools. As you may recall, when you create a VM, you should select the hardware version. This is achieved through offering better mouse performance (no lags with a mouse pointer), higher graphics performance, shared clipboard, the ability to drag & drop files, in addition to scripting to automate tasks inside a VM. VMware Tools is a set of drivers and utilities that are installed on a guest operating system (OS) and can improve the performance of the guest OS, synchronize time between a host and guest, and improve the user experience. Providing socialization opportunities and training for puppies and dogs at an early age can prevent dog bite incidents. In addition to socialization efforts at home, dog owners need to interact with their dogs outside of the house safely to help socialize them. It is also crucial to obedience train puppies from a young age to help them learn when their playtime becomes too rough. We can do this by providing obedience training and reinforcing good behaviors with positive reinforcement. While socialization is the key to preventing dog bites, starting dog socialization early in life is also essential. Puppies bite out of fear or frustration, while dogs bite to breed aggression and protect territory or prey. Socialization And Dog Bitesĭogs bite to communicate and exercise their dominance. Knowing dog bite forces can help owners understand their dog’s bite force potential and make informed decisions regarding their dog’s care and training. Researchers can use bite force to assess the risk posed by a dog breed and to aid in developing implants, materials, and surgical techniques. Faulty training and diet can cause dog bite injuries. In some cases, dogs bite out of fear or aggression. Breeds with prey instincts may bite harder than dogs that do not have these instincts. Poor socialization can result in dog bite injuries to humans. Dogs may bite as a result of poor socialization or breed tendencies. Some dog breeds with the most vital bite forces include Doberman, boxer, pit bull, german shepherd, American bulldog, and Siberian husky. The breed, size, and shape of the jaw affect it. In dogs, bite force is a measure of the force an animal can apply with its jaws. However, it’s important to remember that dog bite force and actual “lockjaw” abilities can vary significantly between dog breeds and within the same species over time. People often compare Cane Corso dogs to other dog breeds for their strength because they are known for their powerful bite force. Instead, it is likely the result of strong jaw muscles and a powerful bite. However, “lockjaw” is not a natural ability that Cane Corso dogs possess. They can bite with more than 1,000 pounds of energy, which is about 80 times the force of a human bite. They are popular for their incredible bite force, which is one of the strongest of any dog breed. Is “Lockjaw” Real?Ĭane Corso dogs are solid and robust dogs. Other factors to consider when choosing a dog include its bite force, size, and temperament. It is essential to keep your cane corso indoors and restrained when it is not in use. These dogs are often considered to be guard dogs and are aggressive by nature, so owners must be prepared for the possibility of an attack. In addition to this bite force, the cane corso has sharp teeth that can easily break through flesh and bone. They are famous for their powerful bite force, which is significantly higher than a human’s. Cane Corso bites can be dangerous and can result in serious injuries. If silence is more powerful or symbolic, then your job as a composer is to exercise some restraint.” Kubrick knew that if there wasn’t a piece of music that could match the pure spectacle on the screen then it was best to leave things silent, which is probably why so much of 2001 is in silence and based around the white noise of space. “It’s a film I owe a lot to, it taught me the power of matching incredible images with incredible pieces of music. “I was already studying the piano but watching 2001 really consolidated my love for classical music,” says Richter. But even though the film’s highly subjective plot, which is centred around a mysterious monolith guiding humanity through pivotal moments on its evolutionary path, leaves more questions than answers, the German-born British composer was certain that director Stanley Kubrick’s use of classical music was groundbreaking. It's an interesting discussion that I'd love to hear your opinions about. Is it cinema? Or is it supposed to be like an art installation? Why is a giant baby floating through space? These were some of the questions flying through Max Richter’s head when he first watched 2001: A Space Odyssey as a teenager. It's difficult for a director to let someone else influence how you movie sounds, but if a talented composer with a cinematic mind is on your side, your leap of faith may very likely be rewarded by a sound totally unique to your film. He also got kicked out of a couple of projects, too, with people later saying that his successor did not do the film justice as Goldsmiths score would have done: Compare his score for Ridley Scott's "Legend" with the one they actually used in the American version, or his music for "Timeline" with what Brian Tyler composed. He managed to take huge avangardistic steps away from the main theme's sophisticated viennese waltz in "Boys from Brazil" and connected purely electronic sounds with impressionistic orchestral music in "Logan's Run" and he did so by sophisticated us of leitmotifs - or simply his skill as a musician, one could say. And Goldsmith was actually a master in doing so. Among others, one primary goal of an effective original score is to give musical cohesion even if the styles it needs to employ vary greatly throughout the film. If you take the art of scoring a film seriously, you see an argument or two in here. Even if one likes some of the choices Kubrick made for certain individual scenes, the eclectic group of classical composers employed by the director resulted in a disturbing melange of sounds and styles overall." (Jerry Goldsmith) "here is no doubt that 2001 would have been better if Kubrick had used North's music. It's tremendously haunting and beautiful, and it's easy to imagine some of these illustrative musical cues in another film - just not in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Luckily, North's original score for the film is available in multiple places and is actually a really fantastic listen for lovers of classical film scores. Although he and I went over the picture very carefully, and he listened to these temporary tracks (Strauss, Ligeti, Khatchaturian) and agreed that they worked fine and would serve as a guide to the musical objectives of each sequence he, nevertheless, wrote and recorded a score which could not have been more alien to the music we had listened to, and much more serious than that, a score which, in my opinion, was completely inadequate for the film. Then, in the normal way, I engaged the services of a distinguished film composer to write the score. When I had completed the editing of 2001: A Space Odyssey, I had laid in temporary music tracks for almost all of the music which was eventually used in the film. Well, with a little more care and thought, these temporary music tracks can become the final score. Why use music which is less good when there is such a multitude of great orchestral music available from the past and from our own time? When you're editing a film, it's very helpful to be able to try out different pieces of music to see how they work with the scene. As for how Kubrick ended up with the musical choices that we've all come to know and love (well, most of us anyway), here's what he had to say about the process in an old interview with Michel Ciment. Over the shirt, she wears a long, navy blue coat with blue-gray cuffed sleeves and light gray buttons, a lopsided black belt with a silver buckle, and light brown pants tucked into two-toned blue-gray lace-up boots with gray laces and high-heels. The sleeves reach down to her hands, ending with a rounded cut that ends at the palms of her hands. For clothing, she wears a blue-gray shirt with a black kite-shaped gem on her sternum. In the epilogue of “Watching and Dreaming”, Lilith wears oval glasses with golden rims, and has since pierced one of her ears, wearing a small gray hoop earring. She has brown high-heeled boots, and a dark blue shawl with a maroon button on it. Her leggings are no longer a tone of purple and appear to be blueish-gray. Her dress reaches to her ankles and appears to have a few stains on it, with a triangular pattern at the bottom of her skirt. The upper part of the dress appears to be baggy and sleeveless, with a dark turquoise sash tying around her waist. She has on a dark blue dress over the turtleneck. In “For the Future”, her outfit features a turtleneck similar to that of her previous outfit, with her sleeves reaching down to her hands, and ending with a triangular cut that ends at the palms of her hands. "Follies at the Coven Day Parade" shows she's taken to wearing glasses again and she's switched to a pale green shirt with poofy sleeves and a gold button on the chest, a brown vest, a maroon ankle-length skirt, purplish-gray leggings, and brown high-heeled boots. In her youth, she wore glasses with round lenses and a Hexside school uniform with yellow sleeves and leggings, signifying her as a member of the potions track, with black shoes with small heels, a gray tunic with a black belt, and a black cowl with a golden button. In " Wing It Like Witches", Lilith is revealed to wear dark blue-gray leggings. After leaving the Emperor's Coven, she wears a graphic tee (supposedly from the Human Realm) of a "low battery" symbol and a ragged skirt that reaches to her ankles, which she got from Eda. She also had an inverted kite-shaped sky-blue gem located on her sternum, which was attached to her dress. She wears a long-sleeved two-tone dark gray dress and dark gray laced boots. She also seems to be able to change into this form at will, as well. In the epilogue to " Watching and Dreaming", her hair is further grown out, maintaining its curls.Īs the Raven Beast, she resembles almost all of Eda's characteristics in her cursed form, but with black hair, large, crooked fangs, a longer neck, black claws, her ears having small ridges with no hair growing out from them and is much larger than the Owl Beast.Īs a harpy, her form is exactly like Eda's, but with her orange hair, mint green eyes with black sclerae, a black kite-shaped gem, and raven-like wings. In " For the Future", her hair has been cut short, exposing her natural red hair. In " Follies at the Coven Day Parade", the lower portion of her hair becomes fluffy and curly. In the second season, Lilith's skin has gotten paler, and she has prominent wrinkles under her eyes. After splitting the curse between herself and Eda in " Young Blood, Old Souls", Lilith's right eye becomes gray, and she obtains a gray streak on the right side of her hair. Her natural hair is fluffy and orangish-red, as shown during her childhood and the epilogue. In her debut, Lilith has long straight hair which she dyed a dark-navy color. She has ivory skin, pointed ears, black lipstick, and mint green eyes. Lilith is a tall, slender, middle-aged woman in her mid-to-late 40s (two years older than Eda). 3.12 Planning to Overthrow the Collector.3.9 Worsening Curse and Reuniting with her Mother. If you use a very raw operating system though, or if you simply want to know more, you may want to have a look at the Fontconfig User Manual to create or edit your font configuration file. Therefore it is likely already installed and properly set up out of the box in most Unix/Linux machines and you have probably nothing to do in particular to have fonts working in GIMP 2.x. And desktop environments ( GNOME or KDE for instance) use it too. Most modern graphical programs with text support now uses this library. As a result you get much better font rendering with real antialiasing, support for bidirectional text and various scripts.įontconfig can nowadays be considered a de-facto standard on Linux and other Unix operating systems as the simple way to list and share the same fonts accross all application. Font configuration is handled by Fontconfig. Instead it uses Pango and the FreeType library. GIMP no longer uses the X server to render the fonts. Starting with GIMP version 2.0, font rendering is handled significantly differently from the way it was done in GIMP 1.0 and 1.2. In nearly no case would you have to understand and know any of this in order to have font support in GIMP 2.x. This section is mostly informational, for users or developers who want to know more about under-the-hood font handling in GIMP 2.x. Then press the Refresh button in the Fonts dialog and start using your new fonts. The default place where GIMP will look for user fonts is ~/.gimp-2.8/fonts/ but you can change it or add other directories by modifying your gimprc or in Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Fonts. For such cases, GIMP 2.x also looks for fonts in a GIMP specific font search path. You might want to install fonts for use with GIMP only or you might not have permissions to install fonts system-wide. Some distributions also propose a graphical tool allowing to install fonts from third-party without bothering about the specifics.įonts added this way will be available to all applications using the Fontconfig system (such as GIMP). After copying the fonts there, you should run fc-cache to regenerate the fonts cache. Have a look at /etc/fonts/nf (and perhaps /etc/fonts/nf) to find out which directories are searched, or look for your operating system documentation. In case you want to manually add third-party fonts (commercial, downloaded…), adding fonts is usually just a matter of moving font files into a directory that is searched by the font system. The easier is usually to install them this way. Most distributions will propose a large choice of fonts in their package manager. Adding Fonts for GIMP 2.x ¶ System-Wide ¶ GIMP 2.x handles a variety of font formats, most notably TrueType, OpenType and Type1. Want more from Inspired by Charm? And where else would this world record attempt take place other than one of the country’s biggest dubstep congregations, Lost Lands?įrom our research, it appears that the biggest mosh pit (or circle pit) ever was created in 2007, when the band DevilDriver attempted the world record at Download Festival with 25,000 fans. On Twitter last night, Shaq asked his followers if they were up for trying to set a Guinness World Record for the biggest mosh pit ever. Now, however, he’s trying to write himself into the history books, literally. “I hope this creates more of a responsibility from the artists to say, ‘Let’s have fun, do what we do, but let’s be safe,” RaymondT said.Shaq has already made a serious DJ career for himself as a dubstep phenomenon, DJ DIESEL. While mosh pits have been integrated into this new wave of hip-hop, the fatal Astroworld Fest has been a wake up call to concert-goers. Calling themselves hip hop stars of today, your modern day rock stars.” And if we look at hip-hop today, it’s almost like hip-hop has taken more of the rock star life. “That’s where that element started and carried over into. “All of these mosh pits come from a whole other area like punk rock,” he said. Hip-hop DJ and media personality RaymondT agrees and said this is more of an influence perspective. Their music has been influenced by punk, therefore the concerts are more influenced by punk.” “These newer artists like Playboi Carti carry this punk mentality with them too. He’s been very vocal about bad brains being an influence on him,” Hernandez said. “A$AP Rocky is someone who comes to my mind. Hip-hop journalist and music festival goer Victoria Hernandez said she believes newer artists have included mosh pitting in their concerts because they’re influenced by the punk-rock genre. “I’m not there literally risking my life.” Peña said while she was at Astroworld, she avoided the mosh pits on several occasions. After that experience, I realized I don’t want to put myself in that situation because, at that point, it’s not even enjoyable.” “I saw A$AP Rocky at Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival and I literally had three different guys collapse on my shoulders,” Peña said. Sara Peña, a hip-hop fan and Astroworld Festival attendee, said she’s experienced being in a mosh pit but found it to be an unpleasant experience. While “old hip-hop heads” are used to seeing fans enthustiastically nodding their heads, performances like those of Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug and A$AP Mob have encouraged this cultural shift that has led to rap acts adopting performance styles like mosh pits. Since, mosh pits at rap shows have coincided with the genre’s shift away from the original “beat box” style and toward more driven and intense sounds. Tyler, The Creator, Frank Ocean, Hodgy Beats, Earl Sweatshirt and Syd and Matt Martians made their own hip-hop rules, which incorporated this skater-punk aesthetic. However, in the last decade, Odd Future took moshing to the forefront of a new generation of hip-hop. From there, it emerged at the concerts of Public Enemy, Anthrax and Limp Bizkit. It’s speculated that hip-hop started to gravitate toward mosh pits with the Beastie Boys. Alongside the Punk Pogo, where punks would dance and bounce up and down at concerts, the dance style of slamming into one another evolved as more intense styles of mosh pits. Mosh pits have been around since the 70s in the punk-rock scene, per Variety Store TV. While mosh pits may seem like a normal ritual in concerts and performances across the musical spectrum, they have not always been accepted in hip-hop. Victims were crushed, could not breathe and passed out. 5 festival was so tightly packed that audience members were pushed towards the stage. The culture around mosh pits has come under heavy scrutiny following the tragic deaths of eight attendants at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston, Texas. Hip-hop fans can often be seen throwing themselves from the stage to the crowd on top of one another and opening up circles for mosh pits. Many hip-hop rappers such as Sheck West and Ski Mask The Slump God are known for their high-energy performances that can feature anything from crowd-surfing and stage diving to head-banging in mosh pits. Contours that form closed curves usually indicate hills or mountains but can also indicate depressions.Topographic map – a map that uses contour lines to depict variations in elevation across a landscape. While you may not have pinpointed your exact position, at least you know your general location. Congratulations! You've just identified the ridge you're on. Is there in your general area a ridge sloping to the southeast? Let's say there is, and further let's say there's only one. To help locate your position on the map, read the map's contour lines. Let's say, for example, you're on a ridge that slopes to the southeast. Using contour lines helps you match up the terrain you see around you with what's shown on your map. The best route between two points, then, is not always the shortest. All things being equal, it's usually better, for example, to "contour" around a hill than to go over it, and then descend again. So the top of Shining Rock is at 6020 feet elevation.Īs you cross the terrain, contour lines can help you make better navigation decisions. The very tip-top of the hill is considered to be half-way between the 6000-foot final contour and the 6040-foot contour (not shown because the hill isn't that high), or 6020 feet. Then 5880, then 5920, 5960, and the final contour line near Shining Rock hill's apex is the index contour at 6000 feet. This map's contour interval is 40 feet, meaning the next highest intermediate contour above the 5800-foot index is 5840. Notice further three of the hilltops shown here: Shining Rock, Dog Loser Knob, and Old Butt Knob. Notice the brown contour lines depicting elevation and relief. The following picture is a section of a well-worn USGS topo map, showing a part of North Carolina’s Shining Rock Quadrangle, a quite mountainous area. Closely spaced contour lines show steep changes, whereas widely spaced lines show gradual changes. The spacing of the lines allows you to visualize changes in elevation and relief between them. The three circular lines you imagined drawing around the lake’s receding shoreline are essentially contour lines-closed loops running along a fixed elevation. Now, imagine the waters receding each few days, leaving stain marks periodically at each new lower water level around the increasingly-exposed hill.
