And once the finish coat is on, no one will ever know the difference. If you have outside corners you may want to coat them with durobond as well. Make sure you use a plaster that is suitable for a one coat system (diamond veneer or x-calibur). After durobond is set coat all seams with durobond, then do your one coat plaster. With veneer plaster you get the look of traditional lath and plaster in a shorter time and with less expense. Paper tape all seams and inside corners with durobond. Veneer plaster gives a very hard, durable finish and is hand troweled on in a variety of textures to match whatever you originally had on your walls. And that’s it! The plasterboard functions like the the old scratch and brown coats of plaster so all the plasterer has to do is apply the finish coat of plaster over top of the whole assembly. The plasterboard is then coated with a layer of veneer plaster. Plasterboard (which is much the same as drywall except usually 5/8″ thick and has a special paper surface that is designed to hold plaster) is installed just like drywall by being screwed to the studs. A traditional plaster render is typically a two or three coat application that has a total thickness of at least 5/8-inch, often even thicker. Maintain even pressure to produce a thin, smooth plaster coat. Turn over the trowel and work the plaster down. Smear plaster onto the wall with the trowel using an upsweeping motion. Scoop up some plaster with the trowel, making sure it’s centered on its blade. Texturing grade silica sand may be added for a texture finish. Use trowel to place mound of veneer plaster onto hawk.
